DEALIGHT INTENSE PULSED LIGHT (IPL)
What is IPL?
DEALIGHT Intense Pulsed Light Technology is a treatment breakthrough that can treat a variety of skin imperfections: unwanted hair, age spots, freckles, unsightly small veins, enlarged pores, acne and rosacea folliculitis and ingrown hair. There are 3 treatment settings on the machine which are:
- Photoepilation
- Photofacial
- Photovascular
How does IPL work?
The new DEALIGHT Intense Pulsed Light is developed according to newest scientific research results, in Intense Pulsed Light Technology. Unlike conventional lasers that emit a fixed wavelength, DEALIGHT, produces a broad spectrum of light in a range of wavelengths. The emitted light is further adjustable through the use of filters and computer-controlled parameters of energy delivery. This versatility allows the operator to precisely customise the characteristics of the light energy according to each patient's skin type, specific condition, and location of the condition on the body.
What does IPL do?
The concept behind the use of light to treat skin tissue is that the light that is absorbed by tissue generates heat. By using specific colours (or wavelengths) of light to treat specific parts of the skin we can target and therefore treat a distinct part of the skin and spare surrounding tissue. Light can pass completely through non-absorbing tissue and effect subsequent tissue that absorbs its energy and thereby produces heat. The DEALIGHT Intense Pulsed Light technology is a non coherent laser. The wavelength, exposure duration, and energy level are those chosen to selectively damage targeted hair follicles with minimal damage to the surrounding tissue. The DEALIGHT Intense Pulsed Light technology is absorbed by the hair follicles, resulting in their heating.
The follicles are damaged and these damaged follicles result in epilation. There are many parameters of the energy emitted from the DEALIGHT Intense Pulsed Light system that can be adjusted by the operator, which allows significant flexibility of treatment, thereby personalising the therapy and minimising side effects.
What are the different treatment settings and what do they do?
- Photoepilation
The DEALIGHT intense pulse light can be used to treat women and men, of various skin types ranging in pale Scandinavian skin to dark Asian skin. Skin areas that can be treated are: the face, forehead, cheeks, upper lip, back, shoulders, underarms, bikini area, legs and arms. Prior to treatment they are is shaved or trimmed leaving a 0.5mm stub. A gel or water ice spray is applied to the area. The light emitting hand piece is then placed flat onto the skin before a light pulsed is fired.
- Photofacial
In this treatment the light pulses are directed at the age spots, freckles, flat pigmented birth marks and other types of discolorations. The tissue targeted is the melanin in the epidermis. The melanin is then heated and then damaged or destroyed - thereby ridding you of the hyper pigmentations. Photofacial is a non invasive treatment that erases skin damage. It can treat a variety of skin conditions such as broken capillaries skin discoloration, age spots, freckles and acne symptoms.
- Photo vascular
In this treatment the light pulses are directed at the spider veins, broken veins as well as vascular birth marks. The tissue targeted is the hemoglobin in the blood
Is IPL Still Laser Treatment?
IPL is still referred to as laser hair removal by many people, although it's a totally different type of laser light when compared with the other laser procedures. IPL uses an entirely different wavelength than other lasers. It is also more targeted and less damaging.
Results of IPL Compared with Other Laser Treatments?
IPL is proving to be the most effective treatment available today and has proven to create a permanent reduction of hair follicles after each treatment. There is more accuracy with IPL than ever before, and with less potential damage to surrounding tissues. Thus far, side effects have been minimised to a little swelling if any side effects were detected at all.
